Relegation threatened Vihiga United are fancying their chances of completing a memorable league double over stuttering FKFPL defending champions Gor Mahia when the two sides face-off on Thursday evening at Mumias Complex.

Vihiga shredded K'Ogalo's air of invincibility with a stunning victory on 23rd January, 2021 and now feel primed to once again humiliate the record winners and halt their rally to the league summit.

Goalkeeper Mustafa Oduor says they are motivated and looking forward to the game against the reigning league champions having staged great displays against form team AFC leopards and fellow strugglers Mathare United.

United are currently 15th in the FKF Premier League log with just 12 points after 16 rounds of league matches. They risk dropping into the playoff zone if they do not start getting positive results soon as only goal-difference separates them with 16th placed Western Stima.

The now Mike Mururi-led Vihiga stunned Gor Mahia in the first leg played at Kasarani, beating them by a solitary goal, and ahead of the return leg clash against K’Ogalo, Mustafa says they are keen on once again getting a good result.

Our position in the league is bad we need to turn things around so that we can move up the table. We now have a new coaching bench and everyone is motivated. We are looking forward to the game against Gor Mahia, the target is to get a positive result from the match,” he told Mozzart Sport.

Mustafa however understands that it will not be a walk in the park against the Vaz Pinto-led outfit.

“The game against Gor Mahia will definitely be tough because we are playing against the defending league champions, it is never easy when playing against Gor. They have also started well since the league resumed, winning their two league matches and the cup clash as well,” he added.

Mustafa has kept clean sheets in the last three games and he says he is eyeing a fourth successive clean sheet against Gor.

For a keeper, a clean sheet is the most important thing. I have kept cleans sheets in our last three games and with the help of my teammates, I can make it four against Gor,” he concluded.

The match will kick off at 3 pm.
