Akumu has played for three clubs in the top tier league, with only Sofapaka being the only surviving team in the top flight.

Former Sofapaka and Western Stima defender Vitalis Akumu has parted ways with National Super League side Kisumu All-Stars on mutual consent just months after joining the Kisumu-based.

Akumu has had vast experience in the top flight, appearing for Sofapaka, Vihiga United, and recently Western Stima in their last season in the Premier League where they suffered relegation.

The defender had two stints at Western Stima, the first one lasting from 2014 to 2017 when the team got relegated after finishing 17th, and the second one starting 2019 to the end of the last campaign that had the team drop down to the second tier and the name changed from Western Stima to Kisumu United.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Akumu confirmed his departure on mutual consent from the NSL outfit, thanking the club for the opportunity and wishing them better tidings ahead.

Further, he revealed that he has received a couple of offers from teams in the top tier, saying he would disclose further details in due course.

"I have officially left Kisumu All-Stars. It was a mutual agreement between me and the club and I am now looking for a new challenge. I want to thank the club for the opportunity that they accorded me and wish them well for the remainder of the season. I have a number of options on the table and soon I will announce my next move," he said.

Vihiga Bullets have emerged as the front runners to sign the defender as they seek to add experience to their young and naive side that has had to wait for 13 matches to register a maiden Premier League victory.

Earlier, the newbie's coach Abdallah Juma was on record saying that he was considering adding some experienced faces in the side during the mid-season transfer window as they seek to lift off the relegation zone.
