Former Sharks midfielder explains why he crossed the border to the Tanzania league

Immediate former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Shaphan Oyugi says his desire to explore a new challenge forced him to join Tanzanian Premier League side Biashara United.

Oyugi became the latest Kenyan to join the neighboring league after the duo of Bolton Omwenga and Baron Oketch who have signed for Kagera Sugar and Biashara respectively.

The defensive midfielder revealed that he was hungry for a return to continental football having tasted it before with Sharks when they clinched the Football Kenya Federation Cup in 2018and subsequently, represented the country in CAF Confederation Cup.

Biashara who are under the tutelage of former Gor Mahia assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo won the rights to play in CAF matches after finishing fourth in the concluded season, behind Azam, Yanga and Simba.

"I really wanted a new challenge after staying in the Kenyan league for close to five years. I have enjoyed my stay there and left with their blessings and wish them well next season . I am looking forward to playing in continental football again with Biashara," he said in a telephone interview.

Additionally, the player who had a stop at Chemelil Sugar noted that he had worked with Odhiambo before at the defunct Agrochemical FC and had a wide understanding of his philosophy.

Odhiambo who joined the Mara based club in May replacing Francis Baraza has not shied from signing players from the Kenyan league and is reportedly eyeing Wazito centre back Maurice Ojwang.

" Patrick coached me at Agro and when he expressed interest, I didn't have a second thought about it. I am hoping that I will put pen to paper before the week ends and commit myself fully to the club. I am enjoying every other bit of training and the environment here, " he added.
