Wins for Thika, Vihiga in dominant WPL performances

A brace from Anita Namata and a piece from Maureen Ater gave Kenya Women Premier League (WPL) title holders Vihiga Queens a 0-3 win away in Kitale where the side faced off with Trans Nzoia Falcons. 

Vihiga went into the match top of the table after two matches, but needing a win to separate themselves from Falcons with whim they were tied on pints albeit with a superior goal difference.

Namata opened the scoring in the 12th minute to put Vihiga ahead. Trans Nzoia kept pushing for an equaliser but Namata had other ideas as she broke their hearts with a second in the 43rd minute. 

Vihiga headed to the break with the advantage and on resumption, it only took Ater 24 minutes for Ater to bury the game and ensure the Boniface Nyamunyamu-coached four-time champions. 

Thika Queens 4-1 Nakuru West Queens

Meanwhile, former champions Thika Queens put their change in managed aside to come together and maul visiting Nakuru West Queens in a 4-1 outcome that guaranteed the hosts bag their second victory in three matches. 

Wendy Achieng was on target for Thika Queens with Nakuru scoring on their own net twice as Rebecca Okwaro added the fourth. Melon Mulindi scored for Nakuru.

Gaspo Queens 2-0 Zetech Sparks

Elsewhere, Gaspo Queens picked their first win of the season, beating Zetech Sparks 2-0 at the GEMS Cambridge grounds.

Former Sparks forward Lydia Akoth came on as a substitute for Gaspo in the first half to provide the assist, as Anne Arusi opened the scoring, against her former employers who had lost numerous seaters before Gaspo scored against the run of play.

The second goal came in the second half for Gaspo through Jackline Nyongesa.
