Women’s World Championship matches are set to take place in the Netherlands from 23 September through 15 October.
Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) women's volleyball head coach Daniel Bor has called on the federation to quickly implement changes proposed to the national league.
A proposal to have the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) leagues conform to the FIVB calendar is yet to be implemented and clubs are feeling the effects now.
The women's league was, through a letter dated 8 June, postponed indefinitely paving way for the national team Malkia Strikers to head to camp in preparation for the World Championships set for September 23 to 15 October.
The fifth league leg had initially been set for from 7 June but was postponed to 14 June at the request of teams that had just returned to the country from the Confederation of African Volleyball Federation (CAVB) women's club championship.
With the expected long hiatus, teams that had been preparing to play in the fifth leg, after the fourth leg was played on 30 April and 1 May, will be out of action for more than four months.
"This is a drawback for us as a league and as teams that have been preparing for the fifth leg. Players were at their best, ready for action but now we have to go back to the drawing board.
We have to come up with strategies and ways to keep training and maintain player fitness as well as try and find some competition to keep the players engaged for those two months," lamented Bor.
FIVB calendar runs league activities from October to May, paving way for national team assignments. KVF's calendar had been running from March to November. An attempt to change to the FIVB dates is yet to be fully realized.
"If the proposed changes, which all the teams had agreed on, had been implemented the league would have been over before teams headed out for Club Championships
The national team players would also be heading out to Brazil without disrupting any national league activities," the tactician explained.
He continued, "Additionally, after the long layoff, some teams will be at an advantage when the league resumes as they have more players in the national team who will have been active for that period. For the sake of everyone, we call on the federation to align itself with the FIVB calendar in the coming season."
Nineteen matches had been lined up for the fifth leg with mouth-watering clashes pitting KVF holders Prisons Kenya against CAVB champions KCB, with the wardresses also set to play Kenya Pipeline. The oil merchants also had a date with the bankers in another thriller.
