Bor targeting playoffs as KVF women’s league resumes

The men's league for the 2022/23 season has been scheduled to commence in December.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league returns this month with the fifth leg set for 11 to 13 November in Mombasa after more than five months of inaction.

The league was put on hold in June to allow for the national team Malkia Strikers’ two-month training in Brazil ahead of the FIVB Women’s World Cup.

As teams will be fighting for a chance to feature in this year’s playoffs, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head coach Daniel Bor wants his girls to stand and be counted as they play three matches away in Mombasa.

“We have our eyes set on top four and to achieve that, we are looking to make a return to action on a high. I am targeting all nine points from the Mombasa trip which will be no mean feat, but I am confident my players will push for the best possible outcome,” offered Bor.

The investigators face Nairobi Prisons on Friday 11 November before playing Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Bor believes his team will have a competitive edge seeing as they just competed at the Nyerere Cup while the other teams have been inactive for several months.

However, he says the squad will be cautious as the break has given teams a chance to regroup and one cannot tell what the opponent has in store.

“The Nyerere Cup gave us a chance to test our team as we had some new signings. We have had time to work on the weak areas exposed during the competition in Arusha and feel that the team is in a good place,” added Bor.

The tactician says all three matches are playable but going by past results, KCB will present the toughest challenge. Last season, Bor’s charges lost 3-0 to the bankers, won by a similar margin against the military side and picked a 3-1 victory against the wardresses.
