Queens return to the same surface on Sunday with a game against strugglers Daystar University
Kisumu Queens Hockey Club beat Black Tigress 2-0 in a Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Super League game played at City Park on Saturday afternoon.
In a one sided match, the Kisumu-based side showed class, dominating play from start to finish.
"We were a victim of missed chances, otherwise it would have been a massacre," a buoyant Queens coach Brian Aduda told Mozzart Sport.
After a quarter of knocking on the opponent's goal mouth, Skipper Beryl Achieng put the visitors ahead in the 17th minute with a well taken strike to make it 1-0.
Claire Mmosi doubled the lead three minutes to the half hour mark for a comfortable 2-0 lead, which they held onto without breaking a sweat for the victory.
The Royals have now won four games out of five and are placed third on the log standings on 12 points - six off leaders Sliders who have played two matches more.
It was the third game the Queens were playing on an AstroTurf. "There were improvements, but some of the ladies still struggled with ball anticipation and control," Aduda said.
"The ball moves faster on AstroTurf and without alertness you can easily miss it - this happened a number of times and we need to improve before the next game."
Queens return to the same surface on Sunday with a game against strugglers Daystar University.
"We're going to win. I would be disappointed by a winning margin of 1-0. I expect a high scoring scoreline," a confident Aduda said.
The students are winless in three fixtures and have only scored a single goal while conceding a whopping 10.
