KVF men's league holders GSU have landed in Group D that has title favourites Zamalek. In the absence of the record holders, Ahly of Egypt who earlier withdrew from the championship, their compatriots Zamalek are great favourites with five titles under their name, but their last was nine years ago in 2012.
GSU also have Espoir of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Nigeria Customs in their group where they will need to finish in the top two from the group to get into the top eight knock-out stage. The Gideon Tarus-coached side begin their group action against Zamalek today at 2 pm.

"Our first focus is making it to the top four from where we will fight to be in the podium. In our last appearance in 2019, we finished ninth, not because we did not have a good side but made mistakes in our game approach which denied us a top-eight berth. We are keen to play better in this championship. I have a good squad and our preparations were good," said Tarus.

On their part, KPA, making their debut in the continental championship after emerging second in the 2019 KVF men's league playoffs are in group A that has Rwanda's APR, Rukinzo of Burundi and another title favourite Esperance.
Esperance of Tunisia, who just set the local Tunisian double of the league and cup come as one of the big contenders for the title. The four-time champions dreams of a fifth crown in their homelands and the absence of record-holders Ahly gives them a good chance.
