KCB welcome attacker ahead of Kenya Cup opener

The left attacker, who has been sublime for Munala’s side since joining the team in 2023, will inject the much-needed firepower

KCB Women’s volleyball side is set to welcome their attacker Juliana Namutira for this weekend’s inaugural Kenya Cup Tournament that serves off on Friday 7, February at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Namutira, who was named Most Valuable Player during playoffs last season, missed the team’s KVF third leg two weeks ago with an ankle injury but is now ready to make her return.

“I honestly feel much better after my injury,” Namutira said ahead of a pivotal match-up with Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in the opening Pool B clash.

Alongside KDF, KCB has been paired with rivals Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Army in the competition set to span five months.

“I hope that I will help my team win against KDF,” the left-attacker said of the duel. “Traditionally, KDF has always played well whenever we face them, so we expect a tough match.

“The girls are equal to the task, and I believe we can kick off the Kenya Cup competition with a win.”

Also expected to feature in the Friday game will be youthful setter Fridah Boke, whose exploits were instrumental in KCB’s 3-0 victory over KDF in the league on 26 January.

Speaking of the team’s preparations, KCB head coach Japheth Munala said: “We had an excellent outing during the third leg of the league.

“My players gave their all and stood out after their exemplary performance on the court. I believe we will maintain the same focus and drive as we take on KDF.”

In the league, KCB is currently fifth on the log behind Kenya Pipeline, Prisons Kenya, DCI, and Postbank.

The team has however played fewer matches.
