Kisumu Queens Hockey Club taking it easy as competition gets stiff

The team is placed third on the Super League log standings behind leaders Sliders and Twinkles

Kisumu Queens Hockey Club's last two games of the ongoing Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Super League (KHUWSL) was a mixed bag of fortunes.

Against strugglers Vikings, the Royals registered an impressive 3-1 on Saturday, yet, a day later on Saturday, they went down Black Tigress, they went down by a goal to nothing.

"The ladies cried," Queens coach Brian Aduda told Mozzart Sport.

Tigress played "Mourinho style" - sitting back after getting the lone goal, and it worked for them despite great effort from our side," he explained.

Placed third on the log standings behind leaders Sliders and Twinkles, all who have played more than three games more, Aduda is not worried.

"I'm not putting pressure on my players, so far I like what we have done and the position we're in," the former Kenyan international said.

"Looking at the table and the number of matches we still have to play, I must say I'm proud of my girls. We're still in contention for promotion, but even if we don't get promoted, ours is a long-term project which we want to give a solid foundation," he said.

Aduda lamented his team's inability to convert short corners, saying it was their biggest undoing in the loss against Tigress.

"I'm drawing a training program to address the issue. We waste a lot of short corners. The players don't seem to be confident and panic when they get them, I want to work on that."

With the next fixtures still unknown, Queens will continue to train in Kisumu for players who are within the region.

"It's the most we can do for now. We expect KHU to email us new fixtures before the end of the month," Aduda said.
