The father of two will tentatively undergo postmortem on Tuesday as plans for his send off continue
Kenya Volleyball fraternity was thrown into mourning on Sunday 31 March following the untimely demise of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head coach Daniel Bor.
The tactician was attending work training on Mount Wambua in Magadi where, according to a Magadi Police station report, he fell during a route march exercise and became unconscious.
“He was rushed and attended at Camp dispensary, thereafter referred to Magadi Tata hospital for further treatment but succumbed yesterday 30/03/2024 at around 1910 hrs, while undergoing treatment at the hospital and deceased body moved to Kenyatta university Mortuary, awaiting postmortem,” the report reads in part.
As they come to terms with losing the coach who joined the DCI women’s team in 2018, barely a year after the team was formed, the side’s team manager Neddy Kilimo says the title-winning coach has left a legacy.
“We are in shock,” Kilimo offered while narrating how a few hours before his demise, the two had a conversation about bringing in a strength and conditioning coach to help the team break the podium jinx.
“Since he joined the team in 2018, he has been a reliable coach. We were in the process of restructuring the technical bench and bringing in more specialists to address areas that had been our Achilles heel since joining the league,” she continued.
Bor, who has led DCI women to three Nyerere Cup titles, had led DCI to become a top-four team, reaching the KVF playoffs in the last two seasons and giving the favourites a run for their money.
The investigators are yet to break to the podium.
“Morale in camp was high and the girls were eager to sharpen their claws during this weekend’s Kenya Pipeline anniversary tournament, to be at their best in the league and upcoming playoffs,” Kilimo added, revealing that she will allow the players to decide on whether they will feature this weekend or withdraw.
The team manager says Bor’s vision for the young DCI squad which boasts national team players like Mercy Iminza and Jemimah Siang’u among others, was to create a title-winning team while continuing to develop the sport.
“He was all about making a name for the DCI team and we had achieved that. We were pushing to make sure what we had created would last beyond our time and that is a legacy we will strive to achieve, in honour of Bor,” the team manager concluded.
We at Mozzart Sport send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of coach Daniel Bor. Rest in Eternal Peace
