Munala was handed the mantle to lead the team after his predecessor Paul Bitok fully transitioned to leadership
Malkia Strikers head coach Japheth Munala has ascertained specific areas that demand refinement as the team gears up for the much anticipated CAVB Zone Five Qualifiers set to serve off on January 26.
The Strikers overpowered the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) 5-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-17, 25-13, 25-14) in a friendly match played at the Nyayo Stadium on January 18.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport after the win, the tactician noted that the ladies were on the right trajectory, but insisted that some areas called for great improvement.
"The only challenge is about the offense on the net. We also need to work on our outside and opposite hitters," he observed.
The KCB coach also praised the exceptional work of his middle players but called for improvement in the hitters' department.
"So far, the middle players are doing a fantastic job. We have gained a lot in our net defense, back court defense, and our service," he averred.
The African Champions will end their busy week with another friendly match against Kenya Prisons on Friday, and Munala was confident that they would sharpen their skills even further.
"In two to three days, we are going to be okay," the calm Munala noted.
The gaffer remained confident that Kenya will earn qualification to Ghana, to go defend the crown they won during the last Games in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019.
Munala was handed the mantle to lead the team after his predecessor Paul Bitok fully transitioned to leadership after he was voted in as the Kenya Volleyball Federation vice president. He will be assisted by Kenya Prisons’ tactician Josp Barasa.
There are currently 16 players in the non-residential camp, training for the Championship. Munala and his team will trim a final traveling squad of 14.
The team leaves for Cairo on January 24. So far, three African teams have confirmed participation; Kenya, Egypt, and Burundi.
