The bankers are looking to make the top four for a playoffs slot at the conclusion of the regular season.

Coach Sammy Kirongo's charges Equity Bank men's volleyball side have had a weekend to remember, bagging nine crucial points at the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league.

Their toughest test of the weekend had to be league silver medalists Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), a match the bankers won 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20) to advance their playoff slot hopes.

Coming into the second leg, Kirongo's charges needed positive results as they had lost their season-opening match to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Mosoriot.

"It has been a good weekend for us and we are happy for reaching our target of maximum points. We had prepared well for the leg, had enough time to correct on our mistakes from the loss in Mosoriot and also were able to gel with the new players.

The squad depth has helped us this weekend and we are hoping to build on this momentum going forward. The target is to qualify for the playoffs and this is a good start towards that," said skipper Wilson Cheruiyot

In their first match, the bankers had an easy straight-sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-22) win over Prisons Western followed by a similar score against Vihiga County (25-16, 25-12, 25-23).

In the clash against the Dockers, Kirongo's charges had to dig deep to take the first set 25-23 but had a much easier win in the second set at 25-14 as nothing seemed yo work for the Sammy Mulinge-coached Mombasa-based side.

Tables turned in the third set as KPA won the set 23-25 and were well on their way for a comeback. However, that was not to be as the bankers rallied on for victory in 25-20.
