The speedster spent much of the 2025/26 campaign operating at outside centre, a role he embraced as part of the team's needs.

However, during the Enterprise Cup final, he returned to his natural position on the wing and delivered a performance that reminded fans of his finishing prowess, scoring a brace of tries to help Kabras secure victory.

For Ashiundu, the ability to adapt has become a crucial part of his game.

"With the way rugby is played today, versatility is important. I can comfortably play on the wing or at centre, and I'm willing to contribute wherever the team needs me.

I had become accustomed to playing at centre, but muscle memory kicked in and helped me quickly readjust to my role on the wing,” Ashiundu told Mozzart Sport.

While the two tries were significant in helping Kabras lift the trophy, they carried even greater personal meaning for the winger, who has spent the past few years battling a series of frustrating injuries.

"I am proud of myself, especially considering the journey I have been through over the past few years.

I've had to deal with on-and-off injuries, so scoring a brace is a reflection of how far I have come. It is a reward for my hard work and a dedication to everyone who has continued to believe in me,” he averred.

Ashiundu's difficult spell began in July 2022, just a week after returning from national team qualifiers in France. What initially appeared to be a routine setback turned into a lengthy rehabilitation process that sidelined him for an entire year.

When he eventually returned to action, he gradually rebuilt his confidence through the Sevens circuit before earning opportunities with Kenya in the Elgon Cup and Victoria Cup matches in Uganda.

Just as he seemed to be regaining momentum, another challenge emerged.

After returning to the Kenya Cup, Ashiundu managed only four matches before severe migraines forced him out for the remainder of the season.

Despite the limited appearances, he still finished as one of his team's leading try scorers, highlighting the impact he can make whenever he is fit and available.

Determined to rebuild his career, the winger returned during the sevens season and went on to represent Kenya at the Africa Games before travelling to the United States, where he featured in a 10s tournament for the Elephants.

Unfortunately, another setback followed.

At the start of the 2024/25 season, a shoulder injury once again forced him onto the sidelines after only three matches.

Before the Rugby World Cup qualifiers, Ashiundu was part of a national team training camp in South Africa, an experience he viewed positively from a personal development perspective.

However, shortly after returning, he suffered another blow when he pulled his quad during the sevens circuit.

Despite the recurring setbacks, Ashiundu remained committed to rehabilitation and recovery, refusing to allow the challenges to define his career.

That persistence is now beginning to bear fruit.

After successfully completing a full preseason with Kabras RFC, Ashiundu has enjoyed one of his most consistent runs of fitness in recent years and believes he is steadily working his way back to his best form.

"It's been a brick-by-brick process. I know I am still building towards getting back to the level I was at before the injuries, but I am on the right track.

I am healthy, training well, and by the time the National Sevens Circuit comes around, I believe I will be explosive,” he said.

As he continues his comeback journey, Ashiundu also reserved special appreciation for the supporters who stood by him through every setback and milestone.

"To my fans, thank you for always showing up and supporting me through every stage of the journey. Your encouragement means a lot.

Keep bringing the same energy and spirit, and I will continue giving my best on the pitch,” he concluded.
