The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) will hold its by-election on Friday 25 March with new and familiar names on the card. The Union was ordered by the Sports Dispute Tribunal to conduct the elections afresh after it (SDT) declared the past elections null and void. The Union was ordered to redo the elections afresh within 60 days.
Mozzart Sport takes a look at the exclusive list of the delegate nominees, with two of the nominees set to run unopposed.
Chairman – Alexander Kiplagat Mutai (Unopposed)
The former Mean Machine player is running unopposed after Joe Onsando withdrew from the candidacy. The withdrawal of the former Kenya Harlequins chairman opened a chance for Alexander Mutai alias Sasha to replace Oduor Gangla who will not be seeking re-election.
Vice Chairman – Moses Ndale and Dennis Ratemo
Current Vice Chairman Moses Ndale who floored Peris Mukoko in the now null and void elections will be seeking to retain his seat but will be up against Dennis Ombui Ratemo who is vying for Vice Chairmanship for the first time.
Treasurer – Joshua Aroni (Unopposed)
Dr Aroni is an accountant, lecturer of JKUAT, investment and financial analyst. He holds a PHD in Business Administration (Finance), and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Certified Secretaries (Kenya) and Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysis. Secretary – Oscar Mango and Raymond Olendo
The position that is held by Ian Mururu will soon be taken over by either of the two. Oscar Mango is the current KRU director and will battle it out with Raymond Olendo who lost to Ian Mugambi during the last elections. Mango was assisted by Leslie Mwangale who is now vying for the director position.
Mango was proposed by Elfas Etemesi of Homeboyz RFC and seconded by Hansen Magwilu (Stingers RFC) and Jaycox Mwavali (Kisumu RFC). Olendo on the other hand was proposed by Kabras RFC Chairman Edwin Esilaba and seconded by Kirori Mindo (Menengai Oilers) and Dennis Ombui Ratemo of Nakuru RFC.
