South Africa once again proved superior as they beat Kenya 7s 38-7 in the third match of the Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s

Kenya’s national sevens side, Shujaa, endured a torrid opening day of the second tournament of the Rugby Africa Solidarity Sevens after getting walloped 38-7 by South Africa's first team in Stellenbosch, South Africa

Everything started really well in the opening two games for the Kenyan team, Shujaa dispatching Zimbabwe 28-12 in the first game after a flurry of first-half tries to ensure that the gap was out of Zimbabwe’s reach come the referee’s final whistle. In the second game, Shujaa pulled an impressive come from behind to steal a 19-12 win against South Africa’s second team, a try-saving tackle by Kenya and a late try ensuring Shujaa registered their second win in two games.

The third and final game pitted Kenya against the Blitzboks who had proved to be a hard nut to crack even in the first tournament last weekend. The script would not change anytime soon though, the Boks raced to a 21-0 half time lead after three successfully converted tries from Impi Visser, Justin Geduld and Ruhan Nel asserted their dominance in the half that saw Shujaa fail to provide a response.

In the second half, SA continued with their exertions, skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi scoring the fourth SA try of the game. Having been subdued throughout the match, Nelson Oyoo beat five markers as he raced over the white line to score Shujaa’s only consolation try that was successfully converted. SA, however, was not done just yet. Two late tries from Chris Dry and Muller du Plessis saw the lead stretched to a final 38-7 scoreline.

The defeat meant that Shujaa are yet to beat South Africa (1) in three attempts since the Stellenbosch tournament kicked off last weekend. Shujaa will be back in action tomorrow.
