T. NashipaeKemboi, Reline emerge victorious in Discovery Kenya Cross Country

Cornelius Kemboi and Catherine Reline were in a class of their own, emerging victorious in the 33rd edition of the Discovery Kenya Cross Country meet on January 28 at the Eldoret Sports Club.
The annual event that brought together hundreds of budding athletes seeks to nurture and grow talents.
Kemboi who is an alumnus of St. Patrick's High School Iten was competing in his first race of the year while Reline was fresh from winning the North Rift region cross-country championships title on Saturday 20 January.
She crossed the line in 26:31:5 ahead of Margret Jelimo who finished the course in 26:47:1 while Glorious Jepkurui completed the podium in 26:51:9.
In the senior men's category, Kemboi ran under 29:24:2, seconds ahead of Kelvin Kibiwott who wowed the audience in 29:41:4. Gideon Kiprotich settled for third place after running in 29:56:6.
"The race was great. I have not participated in major races in the recent past. This was my first race and I wanted to do my best. The results are visible," he said.
Reline on the other hand was glad that her year had started on a high notch. She came in second in the 2023 edition of the same meeting. This year she came in guns blazing.
"Today's race was not like that of the previous edition. Last year, I stumbled and fell and did not emerge victorious. Today I was hoping to win," she offered.
Matthew Kipkoech carried the day in the 8km junior men category after running in 24:40:3.
Peter Muturi occupied second position after finishing the course in 24:46:9 while Victor Kipruto settled for position three in 24:52:8.
The 6km junior women category was even more competitive, but Ivy Jepchirchir defied the odds to emerge victorious in 20:22:6.
Joyline Jepkemoi crossed the line in 20:56:3 with Maureen Jepkoech coming in third in 21:12:7.
