Aymeric Laporte is turning back the clock!
He was impressive at the World Cup he won with Spain, leading La Roja's sturdy defence which set a record by conceding only one goal in the tournament, while his centre-back partnership with Pau Cubarsi proved exceptional.
Hence, the reports of the Spanish outlet Sport about Barcelona's interest in Laporte come as little surprise.

Ever since Inigo Martinez left the club in August 2025, the Catalans have been struggling to find a suitable partner for Cubarsi. Hansi Flick experimented with Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and Gerard Martin alongside the youngster, but his team's defence seemed more vulnerable than before.
However, impressed by the chemistry between Cubarsi and Laporte at the World Cup, Barcelona have decided to pursue the Athletic Bilbao defender and will reportedly make an official move in the coming days.
After spells with Manchester City and Al-Nassr, the 32-year-old last year returned to the Basque club where he made a name for himself to see out his career. Little did he know he'd get another chance for an elite move in the twilight of his career.
Laporte's deal with Bilbao expires in 2028, but his modest €15 million release clause opens the door for Barca.
Therefore, Spain's World Cup-winning duo could soon be reunited at Camp Nou.
