2022 Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa has addressed her followers regarding a controversial comment made on her social media account.

The comment, allegedly criticizing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has circulated in several groups. It looked to accuse Gachagua of wrongdoings, including persecuting his tribesmen during his time as a District Officer and drawing a comparison between him and the late Kenneth Matiba.

“An evil man is just an evil man. He persecuted his tribesmen when he was still DO. The tears shed in Molo are not close to what that so-called Pastor is shedding.

How can this man with blood on his hands compare himself to the great Kenneth Matiba!!!?” the comment on Pauline Njoroge's post read.

The comment drew significant attention from the public, with many questioning whether it was Moraa behind the statement.

Moraa then promptly issued an apology, clarifying that she did not author the comment and that the views expressed were not her own.

She reassured her followers, asking them to disregard the post and report any similar suspicious activity.

“Just to alert you that someone interfered with my account, posting in some groups political ideas and ideologies I don't and have never subscribed to. More so, I have not solicited any assistance from someone.

Kindly, ignore or alert me if you come across such posts or requests. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Stay blessed and lovely week as we continue to pray for our great Nation,” the post concluded.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to appear at their headquarters following his public claims of assassination attempts in Kisumu and Nyeri.

In a statement on Monday, 21 October Director of DCI Mohammed Amin emphasized the gravity of the allegations, given the high-ranking position Gachagua held as a Deputy President.

"These are serious allegations emanating from a person of his stature and cannot be taken lightly," Amin said in a statement signed by J. K. Marete.

The DCI has requested Gachagua's presence at their Mazingira Complex-Kiambu Road offices to officially record his statement and facilitate investigations.

Marete reassured that the matter would be treated with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

This comes after Gachagua was ejected from office after he was impeached in a historic vote in the country’s Senate on Thursday 17 October.

Gachagua became the first deputy president to be removed from office in this way since impeachment was introduced in Kenya’s 2010 constitution.
