Ojwang's arrival adds another experienced option to the Homeboyz squad as they continue to build a team capable of challenging near the top of the FKF Premier League table.
Kakamega Homeboyz have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the new FKF Premier League season after completing the signing of experienced centre-back Maurice Ojwang.
The former Gor Mahia and Western Stima defender, who recently returned to Kenya following a stint with Tanzanian side Tanzania Prisons, trained with the Homeboyz first team for the first time on Monday as preparations for the new campaign gathered momentum.
Ojwang arrives with a wealth of experience from both the Kenyan and Tanzanian top flights and is expected to provide stability and leadership at the heart of Homeboyz's defence as the club targets another competitive season under head coach Edward Manoah.
Club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula believes the defender's arrival is a major boost for the Kakamega-based side, insisting his experience will prove invaluable both on and off the pitch.
"We are very pleased to welcome Maurice to Kakamega Homeboyz. He is a defender with a lot of experience, someone who understands the demands of top-flight football and knows how to organise a backline," Shimanyula said.
"We wanted to bring in a player who can add quality, leadership and composure in defence, and Maurice ticks all those boxes. He has played for big clubs, gained valuable experience outside the country, and we believe he will play a big role in helping us achieve our ambitions this season."
The Homeboyz chairman added that the defender's professionalism and winning mentality made him an ideal addition as the club continues to strengthen key areas of the squad.
"Competition for places is important if you want to build a successful team. Maurice brings that competition while also mentoring some of our younger defenders. We are confident he will settle in quickly and become an important member of this squad."
For Ojwang, the move marks the beginning of a new chapter after his spell in Tanzania, and the defender admitted he is delighted to be back on home soil.
"I'm very happy to be back in Kenya after my time with Tanzania Prisons. It was a great experience because I learned a lot, both as a player and as a person. Playing in a different league challenged me and helped me improve," Ojwang said.
"Coming back home and joining a club like Kakamega Homeboyz is something I'm really excited about. This is a team with ambition, good players and a clear project. I want to work hard, earn my place in the team and use my experience to help the club compete for honours."
The experienced defender also revealed he was impressed by the atmosphere within the squad after taking part in his first training session.
"The welcome from everyone has been fantastic. The players and technical bench have made settling in very easy. The intensity in training is high, which is exactly what you want as a footballer. I'm looking forward to the season and giving everything for this badge."
