The decision to call off the polls was made a few minutes past 4 pm after efforts to reconcile officials from four federations failed to bear fruit.

The four federations, volleyball, handball, triathlon, and taekwondo, had earlier received an order from the High Court to be allowed to take part in the elections.

However, when it came to voting, the four federations could not decide who between the Chairman or his Secretary General should cast the ballot.

“After three hours of haggling, we retreated as an executive committee, but even within ourselves, we were unable to get a solution.

“We have therefore proposed that the meeting be adjourned to another date as we try to resolve the issue with the affected federations,” said Francis Mutuku, the NOC-K Secretary General.

Mutuku said the four federations could not be excluded from the elections as they had expressed orders to take part.

The Secretary General promised that NOC-K programs will not be affected by the adjournment and said he hopes the stalemate can be resolved quickly.

Mutuku is one of the candidates contesting for the Presidential seat.

His rival, Shadrack Maluki, expressed disappointment that the exercise did not conclude.

“We came here ready to go on with the process, and this pushed us backwards. The problem is that no work will go on because the only thing we shall focus on is the elections,” he said.

Earlier, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) overturned its decision calling off the elections after an appeal was launched in the morning.

The tribunal took almost four hours listening to arguments from both parties before making a decision to allow the exercise to continue.

This is the first time in NOC-K’s history that the elections have been adjourned.

The association have until Sunday, 30 April, to finish the electoral process.
