City Stars boss happy with second string players for laboring to book a place in FA Cup round of 16

Nairobi City Stars head coach Sanjin Alagic has waxed lyrical to his second string squad which edged National Super League side Fortune Sacco 1-0 on Tuesday at the Kianyaga grounds to book a place in the FKF Cup round of sixteen.

City Stars advanced to the third round courtesy of Ezekiel Odera who found the back of the net in the first half to settle the contest.

Alagic who handed the players who have been warming the bench during league matches playing time was left impressed with their performance although he conceded that Sacco were unfortunate not to score.

The Bosnian gaffer singled out the trio of Elvis Ojiambo, Oliver Maloba and Abdallah Salim for anchoring and providing leadership to their teammates.

We deserved a place in the next round owing to our good performance. The three senior players held the hands of the rest and hence we managed to get a win. Fortune is doing well in the league and were a good test to my players,” he said.

Alagic who revealed that making it to the semifinals was his irreducible minimum, said he was anticipating a tougher opponent in the next round. He said he will endeavor to achieve his objective, quality of opponent notwithstanding.

The draw will be tough going forward but we will take each match at a time. If we manage to go to the last four then everything is possible,” he added.
