The New York mayor wore the traditional Muslim garment in Arsenal's colours
It would be absolutely correct to say that the whole world is celebrating Arsenal’s title. From all corners of the globe, we are witnessing many famous and non-famous people who are Arsenal’s fans and who finally lived to see their beloved club winning the Premier League after 22 years waiting. Not only North London celebrated, but for example, Kenya too. From the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) to estates scattered across the capital and beyond across the country, thousands of jubilant supporters flooded the streets, draped in red jerseys, waving flags, singing club chants just to celebrate Arsenal's success. Traffic slowed to a standstill in several sections of the city as emotionally overwhelmed fans embraced, climbed atop vehicles, lit flares, and celebrated a moment many had spent years believing might never arrive.
And now, we just saw another important person supporting Arsenal, non-other than the mayor of New York! Zohran Mamdani is not only the youngest ever mayor of the most famous city in the USA, he is also the first New York mayor who is a Muslim. Mamdani was seen wearing the custom kurta as he joined worshippers in the Bronx on Wednesday afternoon. But his kurta, which is a traditional garment commonly worn by Muslims that falls to the knees and has a collar and long sleeves was in Arsenal colours. Mamdani was recently spotted alongside Spike Lee and Jason Sudeikis at a Brooklyn bar, as the trio celebrated Arsenal's long-awaited Premier League title victory.
Mamdani talked about his Arsenal love back in 2025.
“I came up as a fan in the early 2000s, and it was my uncle who introduced me to the team. I was born in Kampala, Uganda, in East Africa, and my dad’s family is from East Africa, and Arsenal was one of the first teams to have a number of African players: Lauren, Kolo Touré, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Eboué, Alex Song. Over the years, then-manager Arsene Wenger transformed what English soccer looked like” said New York mayor.
