The Mozzart Bet-sponsored side confirmed on Saturday that Wanjala successfully underwent surgery after sustaining the injury during a training session on Thursday.
“Assistant Coach Benedict Wanjala Simiyu: After sustaining an Achilles tendon tear during Thursday's training, he underwent a successful surgery today,” the club said in a statement.
“We are wishing you a quick and smooth recovery, Coach! The technical bench and the entire squad can't wait to see you back on the pitch.”
The injury comes at a difficult moment for the tactician, who has played a significant role in the club’s remarkable turnaround this season alongside head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo.
APS Bomet are currently enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run, with their last five matches ending in victories as the Law Enforcers continue to push away from the relegation zone.
Wanjala initially took charge of the side on an interim basis earlier in the season following the suspension of head coach Michael Nam after a poor start to the campaign.
The former Mara Sugar coach stepped into the dugout after the departures of Nam and assistant coach Evans Mafuta.
He officially assumed interim charge in October 2025 and remained at the helm until the end of December, when Omollo was appointed head coach on a permanent basis, with Wanjala reverting to the assistant role.
During his spell in charge, Wanjala oversaw some of the club’s most memorable moments in their debut FKF Premier League campaign.
His first match as interim coach ended in a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Kariobangi Sharks on October 26, 2025, which marked APS Bomet’s maiden win in the top flight.
He also guided the side to a famous 4-1 victory over Gor Mahia on November 25, 2025, in a match where Hansel Ochieng grabbed a stunning hat-trick to hand the newly promoted side one of the biggest wins in their history.
Wanjala remained in charge through December before Omollo’s appointment, overseeing several key fixtures including the entertaining 4-2 defeat to KCB.
The latest setback now temporarily removes one of the key figures behind APS Bomet’s recent resurgence as they prepare for their next league assignment against Bandari.
