The result spices up the title race that is now threatening to go down to the wire, with Gor Mahia set to face Murang'a Seal on Sunday, 16 May, in a clash that could define the season.
First-half goals from Emmanuel Lwangu and Samuel Semo were enough to secure a win for AFC Leopards despite a late strike from Boniface Nyabuto that proved to be only a consolation for Homeboyz.
The victory carried enormous significance for Fred Ambani’s side, who came into the contest trailing league leaders Gor Mahia by four points.

Ingwe had not beaten the Kakamega-based side since December 2023.
For Homeboyz, the defeat extended a difficult spell, with the side now winless in six consecutive matches as their hopes of securing a top-three finish continue to fade.
The match exploded into life from the opening whistle, with the hosts dictating the early tempo and creating the first meaningful chances.
Just five minutes into the game, Homeboyz nearly grabbed the opener when Moses Mudavadi delivered a dangerous ball from the far end of the pitch that found Oliver Majaka unmarked inside the area, but the forward’s header sailed narrowly over the bar.
Leopards responded almost immediately through a swift counterattack engineered by Kelly Madada.
The midfielder released Hassan Beja down the flank, and the winger beat his marker before sending in a teasing cross, but Tyson Otieno failed to direct his effort on target.

Homeboyz continued to threaten and came close again moments before the quarter-hour mark.
Eston Omengo threaded a fine pass to Glen Otunga, who cleverly skipped past his marker before laying the ball into the path of former Leopards captain Peter Thiong’o. However, the striker’s close-range effort drifted agonisingly wide.
In the 20th minute, the hosts carved open Ingwe’s defence once more.
A neat exchange involving Omengo and Otunga released Majaka clean through on goal, but Emmanuel Lwangu recovered brilliantly to block the danger after the striker delayed his shot while attempting to cut inside.
That crucial intervention proved decisive moments later as Leopards took the lead in the 23rd minute.
James Kinyanjui whipped in a dangerous delivery from a corner kick, and Lwangu rose highest inside the box to power home a commanding header beyond goalkeeper Brian Odhiambo for the opener.
The goal shifted momentum in Leopards’ favour, and they nearly doubled their advantage shortly afterwards.
Kelly Madada and Musa Oundo combined beautifully in midfield before releasing Victor Omune, whose effort forced Odhiambo into a sharp save.
Seven minutes before halftime, Ingwe squandered another glorious opportunity.
Omune capitalised on a loose ball and burst into the Homeboyz defence before drilling a low cross into the area, but Kinyanjui arrived a fraction too late to convert what looked like a certain goal.
Homeboyz refused to back down and almost levelled through Glen Otunga, whose powerful strike from the edge of the area whistled inches wide.
Potiphar Odhiambo also came close from a Mudavadi delivery, but the defender’s towering header narrowly missed the target.
However, just before the break, AFC Leopards struck again to take full control of the encounter.
Samuel Semo initiated the attack down the left before Tyson Otieno unleashed a fierce effort that Homeboyz failed to clear convincingly.
The loose ball kindly fell back to Semo, who calmly controlled before slotting beneath Odhiambo to give Leopards a commanding 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half resumed at a slower pace as both sides attempted to regain rhythm, but Homeboyz soon began piling pressure in search of a route back into the contest.
10 minutes after the restart, Rodgers Ouma missed a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit.
© Rodgers OdhiamboZinedine Wesonga launched a quick move down the right before Mudavadi delivered a low cross into the area, but the former Gor Mahia midfielder fired straight at Humphrey Katasi with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Substitute Henry Omollo then tried his luck from distance after weaving past defenders, but his powerful strike flew over the crossbar.
Leopards, however, remained dangerous on the counterattack and nearly added a third goal through Omune and Madada.
Omune danced past several defenders after receiving a pass from Madada, only for Boniface Onyango to produce a vital block. The rebound fell kindly to Madada, but Odhiambo reacted well to deny the midfielder.
Homeboyz came closest to scoring in the 70th minute when Samuel Odaro connected with a loose clearance from Shafik Batambuze’s corner. The winger unleashed a thunderous first-time strike that forced Katasi into an excellent double-handed save.
Ingwe continued to threaten, and Boniface Munyendo almost wrapped up the match with 15 minutes remaining.
Beja delicately chipped the ball into his path after combining neatly with Madada, but Munyendo’s curling effort drifted narrowly wide with the goalkeeper beaten.
Majaka later squandered another opportunity for the hosts after reacting to Omollo’s delivery, but his effort failed to trouble the target.
Homeboyz finally found a breakthrough in the closing stages through substitute Boniface Nyabuto.
Peter Thiong’o’s powerful free-kick was punched away by Katasi straight into Nyabuto’s path, and the forward reacted quickest to slot home and spark late tension.
Despite the late scare, Leopards held firm to secure a massive away victory that could prove decisive in the title race.
The result not only ended their long wait for victory in the Ingo Derby but also intensified the pressure on Gor Mahia at the summit as Ingwe continue dreaming of ending nearly three decades without league glory, while for Homeboyz, it only extended their winless run to six as they slipped further in the log standings.
