Crespo takes over from Luis Castro who left the team just after guiding them to the 2022 Emir Cup

Revered Argentinian player turned coach Hernan Crespo has officially completed his move to Qatari outfit Al Duhail, home to Kenyan international Michael Olunga.

A couple of days ago, Crespo was touted as the leading candidate to replace Luis Castro who left the club immediately after leading them to cup glory in the 2022 Emir Cup.

True to those reports, the Argentinian foward who scored over 200 goals during his hey days representing River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Chelsea and Genoa, was confirmed by the club on Thursday.

"The club's management has signed its contract with Argentinian coach Hernan Crespo to lead the technical management of the first team," the club announced on their official website.

"The coach had arrived in Doha to take over the preparation of the team awaiting participation in the new edition of the AFC Champions League. Al Duhail will participate in the fourth group, its matches will be held in Buraidah, Saudi Arabia, in early April," they added.

Crespo is one of the people that excelled in world football during his participation with the River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, Chelsea, AC Milan and Genoa club. He also participated with his country in many international matches, and was chosen by the International Football Association (FIFA) as one of the Top 100 Soccer Players.

Before landing in Qatar, Crespo had coached the Brazilian powerhouse Sao Paulo after his success in leading the Defensa Justica team to win the Sud Americana Cup in 2020.

His first task will be in helping his team get out of the Asian Champions League group stages, a task they failed to achieve in the 2021 edition.

Duhail, paired alongside Sepahan (Iran), Pakhtakor (Uzbekistan) and Al-Taawon (Saudi Arabia) in group D, kick off their campaign on 7 April 2022.
