Burundian international hopes Sofapaka will put up a title fight after gelling in the first leg of the season
Sofapaka FC player and Burundian international Amissi Bizimana has disclosed that he was convinced to join Batoto ba Mungu because of the club’s title ambitions. In an interview with the club’s official website, Bizimana revealed that he fully made up his mind after club president Elly Kalekwa mentioned that Sofapaka are gunning for the title.
“Mr. Elly Kalekwa had been following my journey in football for some time. He would on most occasions come to watch some of our matches in Burundi and at times I would as well share videos of the matches. He expressed to me his ambitions and that of the club and one word stood out and that is to be champions. That is what made it easier for me to make my decision to join the club,” he revealed.
If the first half of the season is anything to go by, then Bizimana’s expectations have largely not been met as the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions, who have struggled to get consistency in the league, currently sit in 10th position on 19 points, sixteen adrift of log leaders Tusker. Despite that slow start, the midfielder remained positive and expressed his and the team’s optimism in their quest to become champions.
“Sofapaka is a big step for me to realize my dreams but in achieving so I have to be at my best to help the club to become champions. The team now has depth to compete effectively to be champions, we have a set of new players who have joined the club and it’s only a matter of time before we get to gel and cause trouble. We have a supportive coach who is well learned and by the end of the first leg we shall be good to go,” he said.
Sofapaka next take on Kakamega Homeboyz who are one point behind them on the log in Sunday league action.
