Burkinabe referees to handle Kenya-Burundi match

Burkinabe referee Jean Quattara has been appointed by CAF to oversee the match between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Burundi, which will be played in Lilongwe, Malawi on Friday.

Kenya will host Burundi in Malawi in a World Cup qualifier match as the country does not have a CAF-approved stadium.

Harambee Stars will host the Ivory Coast on Tuesday at the same venue in the fourth round of the qualifiers.

CAF has now handed Quattara the responsibility for the crucial duel between Kenya and their East African neighbors, Burundi. He will serve as the center referee in the game, assisted by two of his compatriots, Seydou Tiama and Habib Oumar Sanou, who will serve as the first and second assistant referees respectively.

Benoit Bado, also from Burkina Faso, will serve as the reserve referee.

Bennett Kenneth Bailey from South Africa will serve as the match commissioner, while Tanzania’s Leslie Liunda will assess the match officials.

After two rounds of matches, Kenya is third in Group F with three points after losing to Gabon and beating Seychelles. Burundi, on the other hand, is fourth with a similar number of points after beating Gambia and losing to Gabon.

Kenya has been camping in Malawi since Sunday, June 2, 2024. They landed at 8:30 am local time and have held training sessions every day.

The Burundi national team is scheduled to arrive in Lilongwe on Wednesday afternoon.
