Kenya has already been fined for the first two matches against DR Congo and Angola, and with the recent game against Morocco last Sunday, FKF attracted a heavy penalty of Ksh6.4 million.
Following the match against Zambia on Sunday, CAF announced a reduction in stadium capacity to 60%, allowing only 27,000 fans.
In the tournament opener against DR Congo, held over a week ago in Kenya, FKF was fined Ksh1.9 million and warned of sterner consequences if similar incidents occur during the rest of the competition, which is jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
A detailed CAF Security Officer’s report highlighted numerous violations, including a stampede at Gate 11, unauthorised access to restricted areas, and a motorcycle dangerously navigating through the crowd.
The report also cited fans lighting fires behind the stands and security personnel blocking access to the VVIP section for CAF officials and dignitaries, including a member of South Africa’s CAF presidential security team.
For the second match against Angola, FKF faced multiple fines after the 1-1 draw at Kasarani Stadium. These included Ksh1 million for allowing fans without tickets into the venue, Ksh650,000 for poor management of VIP and VVIP zones, and Ksh130,000 for the use of flares in the stands with the total fines coming to Ksh2 million.
Other games not involving Harambee Stars but have been staged in Kenya have also attracted fines, including a Ksh324,000 fine during the Angola vs Morocco clash for not controlling the VIP area.
FKF were also slapped with Ksh1.9 million fine during the Angola vs DR Congo clash for not locking down the venue.
At a press briefing on Tuesday, Mohammed acknowledged that the fines are a growing concern for FKF.
“We are deeply troubled by the consistent fines following every match,” he said. “This situation places a significant financial strain on the federation.
It is unfortunate that we now have to seek additional resources to cover unplanned fines.”
In response, FKF has launched a campaign aimed at ensuring a peaceful and incident-free match ahead of Sunday’s encounter against Zambia at Kasarani Stadium.
