Pep Guardiola's slot goes through to the semifinals thanks to a deserved 4-1 away win at Southampton
There are certain locks out there that defy those wonder keys and are persistent in doing that.
That was the story of Southampton as they were more than resilient to Manchester City, with the latter failing to top the former in the last two duels. Two consecutive draws are not something Guardiola was happy about, for sure, but today's 4-1 landslide away win at Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals is just what the Spanish tactician wanted from his mean machine.

Despite being tied at one at the half time, the visitors' second-half perfect storm saw the Saints being brought to the ground for the first time in a match against the Citizens since March 2021.
Sterling provided the favourites with an early lead, following the clumsiness in the rival's defence.

Armstrong fired back on the other side, but he lacked accuracy from close range, just like Gundogan a couple of minutes later. He hit the post from the edge of the six-yard box. City were so close to doubling the lead as Rodri fired immaculately around the 'D', only to see his shot going inches wide of the right post.
And then, amid the first-half stoppage time, Elyounoussi ran past the City's keeper and tried crossing it, but Laporte deflected it and scored a bizarre own goal to tie the game for the half-time.

A smell of another draw was in the air at the St Mary's for some time, until De Bruyne restored the visitors' lead from the spot.
Guardiola then put Foden in, and the prodigious youngster showed gratitude in the best way possible, nailing it to kill the game with 15 minutes left.

The deprived hosts conceded another one, fourth of the game, soon after as Mahrez fired it perfectly after he was left unmarked inside the area for the final result, 4-1.
