The former Nzoia Sugar defender is also praying for the return of international football

Nairobi City Stars left back Dennis Wanjala has earmarked winning the Football Kenya Federation Premier League title and turning professional as his irreducible minimums in the new season.

City Stars were firmly in the race to win the league title last season but inconsistencies in the second leg partly triggered by injuries saw them fade to a fifth-place finish.

However, Wanjala who will be in second season with the club in the new term feels that the club stands a good chance of landing the coveted gong currently in the custody of Tusker should they remain focused throughout.

Besides dethroning the Brewers, the former Wanjala is certain that his performance will see him achieve his long-term goal of joining the paid-up ranks. The defender challenged all departments to make good use of the pre-season and work on the weak areas that cost them in the concluded season.

As a team, we ought to work harder next season in order to clinch the title. We came close last season but mistakes denied us the opportunity to fight for the title up to the last round. If we win, most of us will have a chance of turning professional,” he said.

Wanjala who earned his maiden Harambee Stars call up last year when the team was gearing up for a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Mali in the meantime is hopeful that the gates of international football will be opened soon.

The country was placed in FIFA’s red list over government’s interference with the running of the game and consequently, the national teams have been locked out of international football.

The government disbanded the Football Kenya Federation in November last year attracting the wrath of the global body that reacted by suspending the country in February.

I got my first call up last year and I believe I would have earned my debut had the country not been suspended. I pray that the impasse will be solved soon as some of us have a dream of playing for the national team,” he said.
