Extra time heroics from ten-men Porto earn the Portuguese side a dramatic victory at Juventus Stadium
A stunning extra-time free-kick from Sergio Oliveira edged Porto past Italian champions Juventus after another thrilling 120 minutes of Champions League football! French midfielder Adrien Rabiot scored just two minutes later to set up a frantic 15 minutes in which we’ve seen penalty shouts, chances, players falling over in exhaustion and almighty Juventus pressure, but it’s the Dragons from Portugal who edge the tie and reach the quarterfinals!
There was no shortage of drama in extra time as Porto’s Corona created a chance out of nothing and crossed perfectly for Moussa Marega who directed his header straight into the hands of Wojciech Szczesny with goal at his mercy. On the other end, Juventus had a decent penalty claim when goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin took Cristiano Ronaldo out. The referee, as well as the VAR room, remained silent.
Juventus started on the front foot and had a couple of early chances, notably the one when Morata had a free header beaten away by Marchesin. On the other end, Mehdi Taremi hit the crossbar as a warning to Juventus – a warning that wasn’t taken seriously.

The Italian champions’ attacks lost their momentum as Porto waited for an opportunity deal another blow on the break.
Champions League is widely regarded as the world’s best football competition and Juventus made sure they show why. They went out all with fire in their bellies and were level on aggregate within 20 of the restart. Federico Chiesa was the difference-maker. His breath-taking curling shot from a narrow angle get Juventus believing again and Mehdi Taremi’s brainless sending off changed the tide of the match completely.
Juan Cuadrado has been supplying his team-mates with quality crosses all night. One of those was headed in by Chiesa to make it 2-1 on the night and level overall. We were back at square one again!
Another half an hour of Juventus’ attacks yielded no goals as 10-men Porto made it to extra time and ensured another 30 minutes of relentless action. Pirlo’s team had a player more for over an hour, but they couldn’t break brave Porto down. It was an extraordinary night that will live long in the memory – especially for Porto supporters.
