The three-time Premier League winner with the Gunners' "Invincibles" and the Cityzens, Gael Clichy, agreed to sit on the bench of the French third-tier side, Caen, owned by the Real Madrid star

After spending 41 years in the French top two flights, Caen were relegated to the third division, Championnat National. And all that, less than a year after Kylian Mbappe became the club's majority owner.

Still, the Real Madrid star and the France national team captain doesn't give up on the popular Malherbe, as the instant return to the second tier is a primary goal for the ongoing season.

Yet, the new campaign hasn't started as expected, given that Caen sit in the tenth place in the league, six points behind the play-off zone and ten points away from the direct promotion. The manager, Mikel Der Zakarian, paid the price for poor results, and his successor has already been appointed.

It's a well-known name in the football world and a three-time Premier League winner with Arsenal's "Invincibles" and Manchester City - Gael Clichy.

The former France international, who - apart from the Gunners and the Cityzens - played for Cannes in his homeland, as well as for Turkish Istanbul Basaksehir and the Swiss Servette, will thus take on his first head coach challenge, after being Thierry Henry's assistant manager at France U-21 and the country's Olympic team.

In the end, Clichy is undoubtedly one of the most renowned names French football has provided in the last two decades, whose playing experience (14 Premier League seasons) is immense.

However, whether his coaching skills are at the same level remains to be seen.
