The supporters were very vocal because of the accusations of domestic violence against the veteran defender
From a done deal to a no-deal in just a few days.
Jerome Boateng was on the verge of signing a contract with his former side, Bayern Munich, after he presented himself in good form on trial last week.
The 35-year-old defender, however, won't join the Bavarians due to a backlash from fans.
As per respected journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern bosses sat down with the former German international of Ghanaian roots to discuss plans. However, it became clear that they were unwilling to sign him due to fan criticism, which can already be seen online.
The criticism stems from Boateng's ongoing court case for assaulting one of his former partners.
Although Munich's head coach Thomas Tuchel was the main driving force in the attempt to sign Boateng - due to the lack of defensive options following Matthijs de Ligt's injury - the centre-back won't join the German giants after all.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund said this week (on Jerome Boateng): "The sporting side is the most important for us. Private matters are not a big topic for us."

Bayern fans today: "Misogynistic violence is not a private matter! Stand by our proclaimed values –… https://t.co/oMyM2GaeHd
According to Bild newspaper, this has left the former Bayern defender "frustrated" as he had proven his ability and fitness in training.
Boateng has since taken to Instagram to comment about the situation:
"Thanks to FC Bayern for allowing me to prove myself at Sabener Strasse and especially to Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff for supporting me in having me in the team. It was nice to see so many familiar faces and friends again. I wish the team all the best for the season."
The deal is not possible due to off-field issues, as Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund explained:
"Jerome was, of course, a bit disappointed. He would have liked to do it. He was fit and presented himself well. The conversations were always very correct and we had a good conversation at the end in which everything went fairly and he thanked us for the opportunity to train with us."
