Many fans have expressed disappointment that the highly anticipated fixture was scheduled for a weekday, insisting it deserved a weekend slot to allow more supporters to attend. Nonetheless, both teams will take to the pitch determined to secure three crucial points.
Shabana FC began the season impressively with back-to-back wins over APS Bomet and Bandari FC before drawing with Tusker FC. However, consecutive home defeats to Posta Rangers and Mathare United have sparked concern among their fans.
The Kisii-based side will be keen to bounce back and restore confidence when they host Leopards.
Club captain George Onyango acknowledged their recent struggles but remains confident they can turn things around.
“The last three matches haven’t gone our way, but as a team, we’re working hard to bounce back. Our focus is on returning to winning form, and the training camp preparations have been excellent,” he said.
AFC Leopards, on the other hand, remain unbeaten in the league but have managed just one win from four outings. After opening the season with three straight draws against Sofapaka, Posta Rangers, and Bandari FC, Ingwe finally secured their first victory over KCB FC last weekend.
They will now look to build on that momentum as they travel to Kisii to face a Shabana side desperate for redemption.
Since Shabana’s return to the top flight in 2023, the two sides have met five times, four in the league and once in the Mozzart Bet Cup. Shabana have won two league encounters, with the other two ending in draws, while Leopards claimed victory in the Cup tie.
Kick-off at Gusii Stadium is at 2 PM.
APS Bomet vs Kakamega Homeboyz (2 PM, Kericho Green Stadium)
At the Kericho Green Stadium, APS Bomet will face table-toppers Kakamega Homeboyz.
APS picked up their first win of the season on Saturday after edging Kariobangi Sharks in Kasarani, ending a run of three straight losses.
They now face a formidable Homeboyz side that sits top of the standings with 10 points from five matches, three wins, one draw, and one defeat.
This will be the first-ever league meeting between the two teams, with both eager to claim maximum points.
Tusker FC vs Kariobangi Sharks (3 PM, St. Sebastian Park)
At St. Sebastian Park in Murang’a, Tusker FC will look to build on their first win of the season, a 1-0 triumph over Murang’a Seal last weekend, when they host Kariobangi Sharks.
Sharks are reeling from a surprise 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet last Saturday and will be out to redeem themselves against the Brewers.
Ulinzi Stars vs Bidco United (4:00 PM, Ulinzi Sports Complex)
The final match of the day will see Ulinzi Stars take on Bidco United at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The Soldiers have lost their last two matches, a run that claimed the job of head coach Danstun Nyaudo, and will be desperate to return to winning ways, while Bidco have enjoyed a relatively solid start to the new season and will be keen to extend their good run.
Kick-off is at 4:00 PM.
