Sevilla midfielder Djibril Sow is adapting to life in Spain as his team prepares for two tough tests
Djibril Sow's arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt to Sevilla may have been two and a half months ago, but the midfielder is already making his mark at the Andalusian club. In a recent interview with Marca, the Swiss international with Senegalese roots shared his thoughts on the team, his new coach, and the challenges and aspirations of playing for a club like Sevilla in La Liga.
Sow acknowledged that the initial language hurdle was one of the early challenges.
"They have gone by quickly. The language issue wasn't easy initially, but life is enjoyable here in Seville. I wasn't used to this much sunshine before, and my family feels good so that I can focus on football."

The 26-year-old also touched on the coaching transition shortly after his arrival. Jose Luis Mendilibar, the man who signed him in the last transfer window, was dispatched early in the season.
"Whenever a coach leaves, it's a bit of a failure for everyone, the team and the players. I felt bad for him because I think we had a good relationship, but football is a sport where results matter, and they weren't good enough. Still, I believe in the team's quality, and we can still have a good season."
Sow highlighted the inconsistency that has plagued Sevilla's performances this season, acknowledging that maintaining the same energy throughout the game is essential. He defined his playing style as a modern box-to-box midfielder who enjoys contributing defensively and offensively. He also highlighted the influence of Sevilla's veteran midfielder, Fernando, in his adaptation and growth within the team. One key moment for Sow will be facing Real Madrid, a club he greatly admires.
"Real Madrid has always been one of the biggest clubs in the world for me; it's one of those teams I've always watched."
Sevilla has a chance to break a five-year winless streak against Real Madrid at their home ground, the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan and Sow believes that a perfect performance and a bit of luck could lead to victory. Additionally, he sees the presence of former Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos as an advantage for Sevilla in the upcoming clash.
Sow is also eagerly anticipating the return of the Champions League, where Sevilla will face Arsenal, a team he followed due to his idol, Thierry Henry.
"We look a bit similar physically. In the past, friends used to call me 'Henry, Henry' when I played, and that stuck with me. I think he was an exceptional player, very elegant, fast, and exciting player. He's been my idol since I was a kid, so Arsenal has also been a team I've always followed. When you look at their team, they have a squad that can compete for all titles."
Djibril Sow's journey at Sevilla is still in its early stages. Still, his optimism, work ethic, and appreciation for the club's history and traditions have already made him a notable addition to the team. Sevilla fans will be looking forward to seeing how he continues to evolve and contribute in La Liga and the Champions League.
