After a challenging season in Kenya, Casa Mbungo finally finished the season with a cup in Rwanda.

Former AFC Leopards and Bandari FC head coach Andre Casa Mbungo denied APR FC a season double after winning the Rwandan Peace Cup with AS Kigali on Tuesday 28 June.

The triumph marked a perfect outing for the Kigali City sponsored clubs as AS Kigali women’s team were also crowned champions of the 2022 Peace Cup after thumping Kamonyi WFC 4-0.

Casa Mbungo joined AS Kigali back in April after being shown the door at Bandari in February following a string of poor results that has seen the Mombasa-based club slip out of the title race.

The August 2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) Coach of the Month has developed a knack of upsetting the Rwandan Premier League champions after beating them in the second leg of the league.

The lone goal of the game was netted by Kalisa Rachid at the stroke of the half hour mark as AS Kigali took a deserved lead after a bright start to the game that saw them create numerous chances.

Victory in the cup competition also extended AS Kigali’s impressive record in Peace Cup finals, after winning the same tournament’s for fourth time in history in 2001,2013,2019 and 2022.

AS Kigali will represent Rwanda in the CAF Confederation Cup after clinching the club and also pocketed Ksh1.1M.
