After leaving the Gunners, the German executive didn't have a good career and got sacked again

Sven Mislintat is the Jose Mourinho is the executive world: a respected football person who is on the down side of his career. The famous Portuguese started his downfall when he took over Manchester United in 2016, and from that point on, all clubs (including the Red Devils) sacked him (Tottenham, Roma, Fenerbahce), even though he is on the verge of coming back to Real Madrid, with whom he ‘mutually agreed’ part ways before Manchester. Sven Mislintat came to Arsenal in 2017 as a highly rated director of Professional Football and Scout in Borussia Dortmund but since he left in 2019, he got sacked in every other club, including Fortuna Dusseldorf, who were just relegated to the third-tier of Germany football.

While in Arsenal he came when Arsene Wenger was still the manager and left by mutual consent mainly due to the power struggle in the managing board (it was the time when Kroenke family finally took over), he struggled in every other club and got sacked due to his his inability to work as a team member. His stints were with Stuttgart (2019-2022), Ajax Amsterdam (four months in 2023), Borussia Dortmund (nine months in 2004/25) and Fortuna Dusseldorf (just five months). The initial plan was to lead Fortuna back to the top flight. But, as with his previous clubs, there were problems with his superiors, who have decided to part ways quickly. Former Stuttgart boss Thomas Hitzlsperger once summed it up: "Stubborn and stubborn". Even in Düsseldorf in the second division, players like captain Florian Kastenmeier and staff complained to the bosses about his lack of teamwork.

When he came back to Borussia for the second time, he quicky clashed with then coach Nuri Sahin. His “dominant demeanour” during the meetings also seems to be the problem. Former Arsenal director was under sports director Sebastien Kehl in Dortmund’s hierarchy but, according to the reports, repeatedly tried to go it alone with transfers and has approached external players himself. The situation got to the point when CEO Lars Ricken acted as a mediator between the two men and acted as the message barrier but in the end it was Mislintat who had to go. Now he will look for another yob again.
