K'Ogalo are ten points clear after 23 rounds but coach Johnathan McKinstry has warned his boys not drop the guard in upcoming matches
Ten points clear at the top of FKF Premier League with eleven matches to go, Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry wants to keep the focus of his team, guarding against complacency until the job is done.
K'Ogalo beat Posta Rangers 4-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday to maintain their tight grip on the title chase, but the Irishman is not popping the champagne just yet.
The impressive result came against the backdrop of a disappointing exit from the Mozzart Bet Cup the previous weekend after being knocked out by FKF Regional League side Denmak FC in Ukunda, Mombasa.
“There's no doubt about it, it's (the league) ours to lose, but we have to take every game at a time,” a confident McKinstry said.
The team's last four games have been dominated by fixtures against the top six ranked sides including Tusker FC, Police FC, Posta Rangers and Nairobi City Stars, but the storm is yet not over for the defending champions as they will be heading to Mombasa for their next tie against a rejuvenated Bandari FC on Saturday.
“We've had a difficult run of fixtures recently; in the last seven weeks, we have played all the teams in the top six, they still got to play against each other before the end of the season, but that doesn't make it any easier, we know every game is difficult and we've got to guard against complacency,"
“Yes, we're in a great position, but we have got to fight against complacency. It's about being better than we were yesterday, if we can improve on our own personal performance then no one can stop us.” He added.
The former Uganda Cranes coach hailed the support from fans who give them the energy to perform.
