The record league champions displayed character to secure their second successive win of the season, thanks to a well-taken strike by Felix Oluoch Mboga, who scored two minutes past the hour mark.

The new signing, making his second consecutive start, clinically tucked home Ebenezer Adukwaw’s precise cut-back to hand K’Ogalo a hard-fought triumph over the Bankers.

The defining moment of the encounter was in the final ten minutes when Austin, who had been fouled in the box by KCB goalkeeper Elvis Ochieng, stepped up to take the resulting penalty.

However, the 2023/24 FKFPL Most Valuable Player (MVP) saw his effort parried away by the alert Ochieng, marking his second consecutive miss from the spot after another failed attempt in Gor’s 2-0 win over Sofapaka last weekend.

Speaking after the match, Akonnor stood firmly by his skipper, lauding Austin’s courage and leadership.

"It’s normal for players to miss penalties,” said the Ghanaian tactician during a post-match presser with Azam Sports.

“He is our captain, and the fact that he stepped up to take it again despite missing the previous one shows leadership. That’s the character we want in this team.”

Reflecting on the overall performance, the 51-year-old praised his side’s improved display compared to their previous outing, while acknowledging the need for sharper finishing.

"We created many chances but failed to take most of them. Still, we played better than against Sofapaka, which is a positive sign.

I’m delighted for Felix, he showed his pedigree today, last match he was a bit off, not at his best, but today he was marvellous,” Akonnor remarked.

The former Black Stars coach also welcomed the upcoming international break, viewing it as a vital opportunity to refine the team’s cohesion ahead of their participation in the ODM 20th Anniversary Tournament in Mombasa, where Gor Mahia face Shabana FC in the semifinals.

The four-team tournament will see the winner pocket Ksh1 million.
