Newly promoted FKF Premier League side Mombasa United have confirmed the departure of 14 players as the club begins a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Mombasa-based outfit announced the exits through an official statement on their social media platforms, thanking the players for their commitment and contribution during their time at the club as preparations for life in the top flight gather pace.
Among the headline departures is Harambee Sand Stars international Answar Shamun, one of the most recognisable names on the released list.

Shamun, who represented Kenya at the 2023 Africa Beach Games in Tunisia, joined Sofapaka later that year before moving to Mombasa United, where he played a role in the club's successful promotion campaign.
Also leaving the club is experienced defender Rodgers Aloro, a former league champion with Tusker, whose experience proved valuable during Mombasa United's rise from the National Super League (NSL).
Ghanaian midfielder Christian Zigah has also been released, alongside former Tusker FC and Ulinzi Stars midfielder Faraj Ominde and ex-Shabana winger Nehemiah Onchiri.
The club has equally parted ways with several other members of the promotion-winning squad, including Mayson Andala, Peter Mbuya and Samuel Atta, all of whom featured prominently as Mombasa United secured promotion from the National Super League at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The full list of released players includes Richard Ebenyo, Frank Wata, Shadrack Ngamia, Peter Mbuya, Answar Shamun, Nehemiah Onchiri, Mayson Andala, Faraj Ominde, Abdallah Swaleh, Christian Zigah, Samuel Atta, Kennedy Odhiambo, Rodgers Aloro and Abdulrahman Said.
In a heartfelt farewell message, the club paid tribute to the departing players, acknowledging their dedication and the role they played in the team's journey.
"As one chapter closes, another begins. Today, we bid farewell to a group of players who have proudly worn the Mombasa United badge and contributed to our journey.
On behalf of everyone at Mombasa United FC, we extend our sincere gratitude for your dedication, professionalism and commitment during your time with the club," the statement read in part.
The club further noted that the departing players would always remain part of the Mombasa United family and wished them success in the next chapter of their careers.
The departures are widely viewed as the beginning of a comprehensive rebuilding exercise as Mombasa United seek to strengthen their squad ahead of their maiden Premier League campaign.
