Next for Amadora is a home match against Estoril on Friday 26 August 2023

Kenyan international Johnstone Omurwa made his Primeira Liga debut on Saturday night for his club Estrela da Amadora against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz, a game that they, unfortunately, lost 2-0.

Omurwa was an unused player in the opening match of the season against Vitoria Guimaraes, a game they lost 1-0, and on Saturday, he was named in the starting XI, featuring for the entire duration of the game.

Things did not turn out as he had envisaged, however, as they went down 2-0 to the champions through goals from Casper Tengstedt and Rafa Silva. The result leaves them in the 15th position in the log without any points and with a goal difference of -3. Next for them is a home match against Estoril on Friday, August 26th.

In an earlier interview, Omurwa discussed how he looked forward to making his Portuguese Primeira Liga debut.

"I am excited; this is a whole different level, and I am ready to embrace this journey. The Portuguese League is a top league, and I have always dreamed of playing at the highest level, and finally I have that opportunity. Our goal this season is to do well in the league, and if we can secure continental football for next season, the better," he told Mozzart Sport.

Clarke Oduor

Elsewhere, Clarke Oduor has an evening to forget as his club Bradford City suffered a 3-0 defeat against Morecambe. Michael Mellon grabbed a brace in the game, while JJ McKiernan scored the other goal.

City manager Mark Hughes did not hide his disappointment at full-time.

"No, we did not play well at all. I am disappointed in what we produced. There was very little in terms of attacking play, and defensively, we were nowhere near the level we wanted and needed to be. We did not win enough challenges, and we did not get on the front foot today," the former Manchester City manager said.
