He is a monster: Haaland scores two in Revierderby as Borussia hammer Schalke

The Norwegian striker scored who goals in a 4-0 derby win

Before you start reading this report, just look at this goal from Erling Haaland:

Borussia’s striker continues to terrorize goalkeepers around Bundesliga (and Europe) and after scoring two against Seville in the Champions League, he did it again against BVB’s biggest rivals Schalke. Sancho and Guerreiro added a goal each to bring more misery on Christian Gross in his survival battle: Borussia – Schalke 4-0.

Haaland’s two goals mean he scored 17 goals in 17 games this season, and 30 goals in 32 games overall in the Bundesliga. This game again showed what a mistake Borussia made when they sacked Lucien Favre but opted for the inexperienced caretaker manager Edin Terzić, instead of proven tactician. With this group of players, another manager would fight for the title, instead, with this win, Borussia is at the Europa League place, trailing six points from the Champions League spot.

The only thing worth reporting in the first 40 minutes of the match was that Schalke keeper Ralf Fahrmann suffered a stomach injury and had to come off after 30 minutes. Before striking two goals in three minutes, Borussia didn’t look like a team that destroyed Seville in the Champions League, but more like a team that lost to Koln or Stuttgart. BVB played without any creativity, forcing the ball through the middle and counting on individual efforts from Sancho, who was the only player with a dangerous pace.

On the other hand Schalke had a bit of desire to do something, but on rare occasions when they were near or inside Dortmund’s penalty box, they just didn’t have players good enough to score. Hoppe was alone and isolated, and he ain’t Haaland.

The second half started with pressure from the hosts, who realized that they have to attack (and shoot) if they want to turn the match around. With Schalke pushing and pressing, the shaky Dortmund defense started to leak so Hitz had to save the hosts in 51st and 54th minute. Serdar was around the penalty spot and his shot was tipped onto his own post by Hitz before it bounced back across goal and was cleared by the Dortmund defense. In the 54th minute, Hoppe was finally in a position to shoot, but he was too wide of the goal and Hitz saved again. Six minutes later, it was all over. It was basically the first time Borussia players came out of their own half and they scored. Guerreiro and Reus changed passes in the penalty area, and the Portugal international finished with the goal.

But, Dortmund’s best player Erling Haaland decided that the game was not over until he scored again.

With this win, BVB will further build their confidence and they have another „easy“ match next week against lowly Armenia. After that, the brutal schedule begins: Monchengladbach in the German Cup, Bayern in Bundesliga, and Seville in the second leg in the Champions League.

Eintracht Frankfurt secured their fifth win in a row and it was a great display in a 2-1 win against World Champions Bayern Munich. With a surprising defeat against relegation candidates Meinz, Borussia Monchengladbach are now 9 points away from the Champions League spot and should focus on winning the Europa League place instead. The team obviously reacted badly to the fact that their coach Marco Rose will take over rivals Dortmund at the end of the season and didn’t do enough to secure a win against lower opposition.

They will have to fight for the Europa League spot with the likes of Union Berlin and Freiburg, who went against each other this Saturday and the guests from Berlin won, proving to everybody that their 7th place in Bundesliga is no luck. After a defeat against Frankfurt, it seems that even Stuttgart is too strong for Koln, who just can’t seem to get away from the relegation battle.
