Real Madrid's main man is receiving more and more recommendations from his advisors regarding the Arsenal star, and knowing him, it won't take much before he puts an offer on the table
Real Madrid have signed virtually every elite talent world football has to offer, yet they have still ended a second consecutive season without a major trophy. Despite once again falling short in La Liga and suffering an earlier-than-expected exit from the Champions League, Los Blancos remain comfortably the most valuable club in the world, with the financial power to spend freely on marquee additions. It is therefore no surprise that club president Florentino Perez is already exploring several blockbuster options ahead of the new campaign.
The Spanish giants are preparing for a major overhaul of their midfield. While names such as Rodri and Enzo Fernandez have dominated the rumor mill for months, reports emerging from Spain now point to a different target climbing to the top of Real Madrid's wishlist.
According to British media, although Perez is a huge admirer of Fernández and had hoped to take advantage of his uncertain situation at Chelsea, influential figures within the club's hierarchy are urging him to look elsewhere.
Their preferred candidate to become the new leader of Madrid's midfield is none other than Declan Rice.
The England international enjoyed a superb season with Arsenal, helping the Gunners capture their long-awaited Premier League title and reach the Champions League final, where they were ultimately defeated by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
Real Madrid's decision-makers are said to be deeply impressed by Rice's leadership qualities, physical presence, and technical ability, viewing him as the most complete midfielder in Europe at the moment.
Whether Madrid eventually choose Rice, Rodri, or Fernandez, one thing is clear: any deal would likely require an investment well in excess of €100 million. However, money has rarely been an obstacle for the club. The key question at the Santiago Bernabeu is which of the three can provide the greatest stability and serve as the ideal long-term solution in the heart of midfield.
Of course, Arsenal will have a significant say in the matter. The North London club are unlikely to stand by and watch one of their most important players leave without a fight.
Reports in England suggest that the Gunners are already preparing a substantially improved contract offer for the 27-year-old midfielder in an effort to ward off interest from Spain.
The coming months will reveal whether the pull of the world's most decorated club proves too strong for Rice to resist.
