Homeboyz were dealt a blow after captain Moses Mudavadi suffered an injury in their last match, but Odhiambo is banking on his squad depth to navigate his captain’s absence
FKF Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz have revealed how they are coping with the exit of key players, including Harambee Stars forward Moses Shummah.
Shummah was an important player for Homeboyz over the past few seasons, as he had proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer.
Last season, he found the back of the net 17 times to see his side finish third on the log and won him the FKFPL 'Golden Boot'.

With his prowess in front of goal, the 22-year-old attracted interest from several clubs, with Zambian giants Power Dynamos winning the race for his signature.
Apart from Shummah, the Mozzart Bet-sponsored outfit also lost their former vice captain and defense marshall Brian Eshihanda to Tanzanian club Pamba Jiji.
Speaking after Homeboyz’s 1-0 victory over Sofapaka in a match held on Friday, 3 October at Dandora Stadium, Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo opened up on how they have adjusted to the departed duo.
“We managed to get good players like Lopaga (Josephat) and Eugene (Ochieng). The two have helped us to adapt to the loss of the departed players,” said Odhiambo.
Lopaga, who is the direct replacement for Shummah, was the difference in the Sofapaka clash after scoring the match’s only goal in the third minute to secure Homeboyz’s first league victory of the season.
Besides the former AFC Leopards striker, the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup champions also secured the services of former KCB FC striker Derrick Otanga to boost their attack.
Despite securing victory over Sofapaka, Homeboyz were dealt a blow after captain Moses Mudavadi suffered an injury in the match, but Odhiambo is banking on his squad depth to navigate his captain’s absence.
“It was unfortunate to lose Mudavadi to injury, but we have young players like Joshua (Nyatini) and Majak (Oliver) who are equal to the task and able to fill the gap,” he stated.
Homeboyz are currently fourth on the FKFPL log with four points to their name.
