The 37-year-old was handed a 90-day suspension after videos emerged online, allegedly the goalkeeper of match-fixing
FKF Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz are open to allowing goalkeeper Patrick Matasi back into their squad, months after he was suspended for alleged match-fixing.
The club, which Matasi is still contracted to, are reportedly awaiting for official green-light from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), to reintegrate the 37-year-old to their roster for the 2025-2026 season.

Matasi was in March this year provisionally suspended from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, after an undated video circulating online appeared to show him in a conversation with an unidentified individual, allegedly discussing plans to fix a match.
In the video, which did not offer specificity on the said games, Matasi was seen allegedly receiving instructions to concede goals in exchange for an undisclosed sum.
In April, the Harambee Stars goalkeeper was let off the hook after the High Court of Kenya issued a court order, lifting the FKF suspension.
However, Matasi is yet to return to action, having failed to secure clearance from FKF’s disciplinary committee.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Kakamega Homeboyz Team manager Boniface Imbenzi is hopeful that the standoff is cleared before the transfer window closes on Friday, 5 September.
“Matasi’s case is still in the hands of the federation (FKF), but what I know is that the court (High Court) cleared him but the federation is yet to give him the clearance to return to the pitch,” he said.
The court did not receive a formal allegation from anyone with evidence over his match-fixing allegations and so he was cleared by the court after no one showed or came out to show that he had been betting.
"We are waiting for the FKF disciplinary committee to give him clearance to return to the pitch, because they had suspended him for three months which he has served.”
Imbenzi added that FKF’s decision would open up their options pertaining to Matasi's future.
"When that is done, depending on clearance or not, then we will be able to make the decision to have him in our plans, or allow him to decide on his next move,” Imbenzi said.
