When Marvin Nabwire stepped up to convert the pressure penalty that sent Kenya Police FC to the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup final, the celebrations extended far beyond Nyayo National Stadium.

Nabwire struck the decisive spot kick as Police edged Bandari 5-3 in a semifinal shootout, following a barren draw in regulation time on Saturday, 16 May.

Shortly after the final whistle, Police players wheeled to one corner of the pitch and broke into their trademark march, reminiscent of active servicemen, as fans - including those from their sister club, Police Bullets FC - erupted in celebration from the stands.

A General Service Unit (GSU) band in attendance hammered their drums with renewed urgency after Nabwire buried his kick, while taunting Bandari with coastal tunes commonly associated with the Dockers as they celebrated Police’s second-ever cup final berth.

While the victory seemingly carried immense significance for the club faithful, it was equally special for the 1,541 children stationed at the Kawangware-based Vapor Ministries.

One of their graduates had not only sealed Police’s place in the final but was also named Man-of-the-Match for holding his nerve to deliver when it mattered most.

When he was handed the Mozzart Bet Ksh100,000 Humanitarian Cheque for his heroics, Nabwire did not hesitate to reveal that the proceeds would benefit the kids, whom a majority consider him a true role model.

On Monday, the Harambee Stars midfielder kept his promise by redeeming his cheque to purchase 33 footballs, which he later presented to the organisation that nurtures talent, instils hope and helps uphold strong moral values.

Having joined the institution in 2008 while still a pupil, Nabwire understands that the organisation requires constant support to ensure the large number of children have access to decent sporting equipment.

“I am happy to return to where my football journey began. During my time here, we faced a serious challenge in accessing quality footballs and other sporting equipment, largely because of the high number of children.

The situation remains the same today, and that is why, after winning the award, I felt it was important to support the organisation that laid the foundation for my career," he told Mozzart Sport.

Nabwire, who passed through the hands of John Amboko, Joseph Sakwa and Nicholas Ochieng, left the academy in 2014 upon joining Kakamega High School. It is after school that AFC Leopards acquired his services.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the dreams of the current players. This would not have been possible without the Humanitarian Cheque initiative. I thank Mozzart Bet for coming up with such a brilliant idea,” added the midfielder, who was part of the Harambee Stars squad that reached the quarterfinals of the CHAN 2024 tournament

Presently, the organisation's age-grade teams include: Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, as well as the senior side, Vapor FC, which competes in the FKF Division Two League.

Meanwhile, Vapor Ministries Centre manager Vincent Musyoka thanked Nabwire for the visit and donation, noting that his gesture would inspire more children to follow in his footsteps.

"We are always happy to see our products thriving out there. He is a perfect example of what our vision entails, and his return means a lot to us.

His gesture will certainly benefit his younger brothers who aspire to follow in his footsteps. We also thank Mozzart Bet for giving back to the community through players,” said Musyoka.

The administrator was accompanied by Michael Muchai, the Poverty Alleviation Manager at the centre, and Faith Atali, who not only played alongside Nabwire but also serves as head coach of the Valeo Women’s team.
