The Argentinian star won everything in football but there are some regrets off the pitch
Lionel Messi has won everything possible in his career. That’s why it’s not so easy to ask him a question he hasn’t already answered at least five times. During an appearance on an Argentine podcast, Messi first spoke about the days when, at the age of 13, he left his hometown of Rosario to move to Barcelona.
“I was a child, but I remember everything. I had my friends, my school, everything was in Rosario. But I was also happy, excited, and couldn’t wait to arrive in Barcelona. I remember the whole neighborhood coming out to see us off when we were leaving. Everyone came to the airport. It was impressive — like something out of a movie. They didn’t come to say goodbye to Leo Messi, but to see off the Messi family as they left for Barcelona,” Leo said.
The Argentine also spoke about his early days at FC Barcelona.
“I finished school in Spain. I completed four years of secondary school in Barcelona, like the other kids from La Masia. As for football, my first year was difficult because I couldn’t play for six months until the transfer was finalized. And in my first match, I injured my tibia and had to rest for another three months. That first year felt long, but the next one didn’t — once I started playing for the B team, everything moved quickly“ he said.
While he has won everything there is to win in football, there are still things Messi regrets.
“I regret not learning English when I was a kid and had the time to do it. That’s why today I tell my children to make the most of the time they have. I especially regret missing the chance to speak with many famous people because of the language barrier. When you’re a child, you don’t understand certain things” Messi pointed out.
