The Harambee Stars midfielder joined The Bankers this month, and was on the score-sheet in the club's recent match against Posta Rangers on Tuesday

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno believes the recent addition of former Kenya international Francis Kahata is a big boost to the team’s ambitions this season.

Kahata, who formerly played for Kenya Police, is the latest addition to the banker’s squad.

Speaking on Wednesday, 21 January, Mieno said: "Kahata has a lot to offer to the team once he gets his footing and does what the coach wants. He has played at the highest level before and is therefore a good addition to the squad.”

Apart from Kenya Police, Kahata has also played for record Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia.

He began his career at Thika United before moving to Gor Mahia. From Gor Mahia he joined Tanzanian giants Simba before returning home.

Mieno who was speaking after his side picked a 1-0 win over Posta Rangers on Tuesday, believes the win has restored back their confidence, coming on the back of a three-match winless run.

“It was a tough outing and we are grateful for the three points considering that it was a long time since we won a match,” he said.

Before the win, The Bankers had lost to Shabana 3-1, and to Nairobi United 2-0, before picking a barren draw against defending champions Kenya Police.

“We had lost track for a while, and this win has helped us regain confidence and momentum to catch up with the teams that are ahead of us,” the midfielder added.

Mieno was also full of praise for Posta Rangers despite the loss.

“After we went a goal up, they responded well and even got a penalty. They are unfortunate not to have scored, and I want to give it to our backline for being rigid and denying them an opportunity to score.”

After Wednesday’s win, KCB lie in sixth place on the standings with 25 points, while Posta Rangers are 11th with 22 points.
