K'Ogalo, who are still in the chase for Premier League success this season, comfortably dispatched 2017 Mozzart Bet Cup winners Sharks 2-0 at Dandora Stadium on Thursday afternoon, papering over visible cracks that have threatened to wreck their campaign.

Gor Mahia's mid-season signing Patrick Essombe got the ball rolling for the Green Army in the 16th minute, capitalising on a sloppy passage of play from Kariobangi Sharks to slot in past Sebastian Wekesa.

The goal was his first for the club since crossing over from Esportive de Douala in January.

If anything, the goal had played its big role in extinguishing a period of absolute Shark attack, which had beforehand forced Gad Matthews to be on high alert from the first whistle.

Quick out of the blocks, William Muluya's charges had gone close via the boots of LeonLevitt Otieno and Francis Siololo, only for their efforts to be repelled by Matthews.

Essombe could have further reintroduced himself to the Green Army in the 22nd minute, but saw Wekesa put a body in the path of his close-range goal-bound shot, ensuring Sharks took a slim deficit to the break.

Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic made four changes after the break, but the nature of this contest had K'Ogalo mainly on rearguard action, only managing to threaten Wekesa through long-range shots.

On the other end, second-half substitute Ally Salum miskicked an audacious bicycle-kick inside the box, and let another chance go begging when he shot wide from range.

The final nail in the Sharks' coffin came with five minutes of regular time left, as two substitutes combined to win the tie.

It all came from a throw-in on the right side, which Ben Stanley Omondi took advantage of to whip a cross for Alpha Onyango to slam past Wekesa.

And though the tie began with nerves, the Green Army was back on their feet at full time, Gor Mahia into the last four!
